Agent Academy: How My Team Sets Quarterly Rocks
On a Quarterly basis, everyone on our executive team chooses a Rock for the quarter.
We use Rocks to move our agenda forward on a quarterly basis to match our annual goals.
I have talked about Rocks a lot, especially in CEO Agent Academy. Today I am going to break down what is a good Rock, what does it look like, how a good Rock is structured and what is not a Rock.
Rock definition: What could I accomplish that by doing so would move the business forward on a permanent basis? What can we do this quarter that would forever serve our growth?
By thinking of it this way, you can start eliminating a lot of goals that agents call Rock but are not Rocks. Such as; to sell five houses, selling a house is already part of your job descriptions and your plan.
A Rock would be something like creating an intake form. This form captures all the necessary information that you need but also capture unique things like, their favorite movie or sports team. We call these field hug field, and they allow you to capture information that is more about them and who they are.
This would be considered a Rock because as simple as it may be of just creating a form, if you were able to create that form and put it to use consistently, you would then have information that you could use in the future.
If you do not have this kind of form yet consider making it, one of your next Rocks.
Imagine if you could go into your CRM and find out that your client’s favorite sports team is Notre Dame and you got that a toddler jersey because you just found out they had a kid. Would this be meaningful to them? Yes! Would you be connected to them for the rest of their life? Yes!
Rocks can be that simple or could be more complicated such as, five strategic meetings with Agents that are retiring, and you could take over their database and grow your business. This is one of my Rocks this quarter.
Not only is your Rock going to move the business forward, but it needs to be measurable.
Many of our goals have the problem of not being measured, so we don’t know if we achieved it by the time the goal is due.
We need to make sure we are setting SMART Rocks.
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Realistic
- Tangible
An example of a SMART Rock is: By February 20th, 2019 I will have an intake form for Buyers that not only captures contact information but has six additional fields that tell us something about their life.
Now you have something that is a SMART Rock, and you will know if you have accomplished it!
Go look at your goals for the quarter or your Rocks and make sure they are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and tangible. Also, you are building something into your business that will serve you forever.
