Agent Academy: How to Deliver Bad News to Clients
How can you act professional in the face of bad news with one of your buyers or sellers?
How can you be different than the typical real estate agent?
How do you act, look, and sound different than every other agent in your market?
What it comes down to is that there’s plenty of amateurs within our industry because of how easy it is to get licensed as an agent. There’s no animosity within that statement, it’s just simply the truth.
So, how do you differentiate yourself away from every other real estate agent?

What I encourage you to do is that you start behaving like a doctor. You start diagnosing and delivering professional news to each of your clients. Keep in mind, with professional comes respectable, and as long as you keep their best interest in mind – regardless of the news. The outcome will always be greater when your straight forward, honest, and as direct as possible.
The news your delivering may not be something that they want to hear, which is why you need to enter the conversation with option A and option B, a specific plan, and then give them the next steps they’re going to have to take regardless of the obstacle they may possibly be facing.
Don’t beat around the bush. Don’t dance around the problem. Be straight forward because at the end of the day, your recommendation, and how you handle the situation with your buyer/seller is something that is going to affect them for the rest of their lives.
Although you’re not really a doctor and it’s not necessarily life or death. Your buyer/seller is placing their trust, future and hope within your hands and as their agent – it’s important you keep in mind the mentality of a doctor every time you walk into that conversation.
You’d be surprised just by simply changing your mentality, perspective and the way you go about handling these situations with your clients – how better it will not only make you but also, our industry.
