Agent Academy: Real Estate’s Common Enemy
You and I have a common enemy, mediocrity. Those of us that spend our time getting an education and becoming professionals are the minority.
How easy is it to become a licensed agent? That is where the issues start in our industry. The bar is so low to become an agent that we have well over a million agents in the industry.
Many of those agents aren’t selling enough to support their families. The reason that happens is that it is so easy to become licensed.
Very rarely do we go into real estate on purpose. We end up here accidentally because selling houses seems easy.
You start with an easy sell, a family or friends house. Then what do you do? You go around and find people in your brokerage to model. You start mimicking the person that is doing to be successful. Yet, that person got licensed just as easily as you did. They also mimicked the person before them.
We now have generations and generations of agents that look the same, sound the same and are doing the same thing as everyone else.
This is where our opportunity lies, differentiation. Differentiation is what this industry is all about.
The agent that can differentiate themselves will be in one space. While all the other agent will be in another space fighting it out, creating a red bloody ocean.
If you can find a clear voice and create a method that will address the pain points caused by mediocrity, you will then be in blue oceans.
If you want to succeed in real estate moving forward you need to differentiate yourself.
That enemy we share, mediocrity, is big and most people belong to it. You and I will have to face the criticism when we start doing things differently. It will be up to us to stand in front of that criticism knowing we are creating blue oceans for ourselves.
Remember there is not one person that is average while also being exceptional.
